Quick Guide: Promote Your Blog Post Like A Pro

You know that feeling of eager anticipation you get when you hit “publish” on your blog post? When your thoughtful and meticulously edited words are finally open for the public to read?
Well, unless you’re writing for Mashable or The Huffington Post or even BuzzFeed, the odds are that those feelings are pretty one-sided.
Your audience (or potential audience) is not lurking around your blog waiting for the next post to go live. Even your blog’s biggest fans are busy with real life and need a reminder to check in and catch up on your awesome content.

That’s why content promotion is as important as content development.

As Social Trigger’s Derek Halpern sagely advises:

“You don’t have to create content, day in, and day out. You just have to work on getting the content you already have… in the hands of more people.”

The above graphic gives you a good place to start. Use this six-point checklist as the basis of your blog promotion strategy for social media, and add additional platforms or more fully develop the strategies for your existing social networks once you get into your content-promotion groove.
But remember: content promotion is not only about sharing on social media. Social media should simply be one tactic in your overarching content strategy.
